Laurel casino is acting Impulsive
At Laurel Park, both the interests of horse racing and gambling are coming together for the revitalization of slot machine. Regardless of the collapse of owner of the track- Magna Entertainment Corp in making a reasonable bid and in spite of The Cordish Cos’ highly qualified bid for a contending site at Arundel Mills Mall. This type of news validates the distrust regarding Maryland slots program and the kind of wheeling and dealing which spoiled the validation of slots in Pennsylvania.
Penn National which is one of the big gambling company owning Charles Town Races and Slots, are having talks to operate the gambling in Laurel, despite the company is an exclusive bidder for having the slots license in Cecil County. The gambling law of Maryland forbids the company from having a possession with over one slots license. According to the representatives of Penn National they are looking for a way out maybe by running a casino but some other unit will possess the license.
There was a reason for the prohibition of having several licenses which got included in the law, which is the prevention of unjustifiable absorption with one company and we should be cautious of all the efforts to avoid it.
The main force behind the revitalization of Laurel slots bid is the zoning for Arundel Mills site which is hung up at Anne Arundel County Council. But it does not seem like as the deadlock is insuperable. The council accepted the alterations on Monday night to ease out issues related to the parking at a projected site. Mr. Martin who is the Governor and Mr. Thomas who is the Senate President said that they had communicated their slots choices at Laurel prior to the submission of the bids.
Mr. Joseph who is the ex owner of Maryland Jockey Club would be making more profits with slots arriving at Laurel. Mr. Martin along with the slots commission should clear the things that any further talks regarding the rebidding of the Arundel site will be very impulsive. The slot sites viable bidding was one of the main safeguards of the law of Maryland slots and the state is responsible for every required step to dismiss the idea that the repair will take place.
