David Williams Wins 2010 WPT Champion
After beating a field of 195 players, Mr. Williams has won 2010 WPT Championship. After playing for seven days he won the title along with the first place prize of $1, 530,537. Mr. Williams made his presence felt after coming second to Mr. Raymer at 2004 WSOP Main Event, where he won $3.4 million.
Since then, Mr. Williams has become one of the successful players on the tournament circuit. And with his latest winnings, he has collected total winnings of $7,879,550. In 2006, Mr. Williams has also won a WSOP bracelet at $1,500 7 Card stud event.
With his recent win at 2010 WPT Championship, Mr. Williams gave a comment that it is always a great feeling to win a tournament. It does not matter if it is a $100 tournament, it still feels great. Winning a tournament of this level feels even better. Looking it financial wise it is not that lucrative (as WSOP Main Event 2004) but the feeling is just great. When he won $3.4 million, he felt a little down.
As the outstanding six players took their positions at the final table, Mr. Williams found himself competing against some of the best players which comprises of John O’Shea, David Benyamine, Eric Baldwin, Billy Baxter, and Shawn Buchanan. Mr. O’Shea was the first player to exit in the sixth position with $199,887; he was followed by Mr. Baxter in the fifth position with $246,920, and then Mr. Benyamine in the fourth position with $329,227.
Mr. Buchanan almost made it to heads-up stage all by himself after being 4-bet by Mr. Williams with pocket 9’s and subsequently pushing all-in all by himself along with a pair of Q’s. Mr. Williams made the call and he was close to the finish until a 9 hit the flop which sent Mr. Buchanan to the rail in the third position along with $587,905 consolation prize.
The final hand finally arrived when Mr. Baldwin pushed all-in along with Ah-5h and Mr. Williams called with his pocket deuces. With an A coming on the flop, Mr. Baldwin had to satisfy with $1,034,714 runner up prize.
Meanwhile, Mr. Williams won his first title of WPT and prize money of $1,530,536. After his victory, Mr. Williams commented that when he saw the deuce coming, the feeling was just amazing. As soon as he saw it, he was not able to speak and the whole experience was just overwhelming.
