Attorney General of Indiana not Favoring Federal Regulation
There has disagreement for both Mr. Jim’s HR 4976 and Mr. Barney’s HR 2267 bills, which seek out to authorize online gambling. Generally the reasons put forward are online gambling is addictive, online gambling is morally wrong, minors cannot be stopped from accessing online gambling sites, antisocial elements can make use of it for money laundering, and it can cause financial damage.
Mr. Greg who is the Attorney General of Indiana has offered a new reason for not considering these bills. Talking with United States House Ways and Means Committee, he said regulation and licensing at central level break the state rights to take their own decision regarding the online gambling.
Mr. Greg also added that if the bills are passed then United States Department of Treasury would provide license to the operators of online gaming and once they have provided the license there is nothing the state could do about it. These operators will be then protected from the trial under the laws of state. He said that the state should be given authority to decide whether to support online gaming at state level or not. As the Attorney General of Indiana he has to make sure that the state is capable of passing its own regulations.
Mr. Greg also inquired about the promotion of anti-UIGEA bills on grounds of that they are capable enough to raise profits of billions of dollars. He also feared that the central financial plans would be fair at the cost of the independence and the central funds.
Different American sports associations have opposed the legalization of the online sports betting. According to them this will give rise to the corruption in sports. Mr. Barney has tried to appease them by promising them that online sports betting will not be authorized. Mr. Greg thinks that if sports betting is excluded of authorized online gambling initially, once casino gambling and online poker become authorized it will not be possible to exclude sports betting completely.
In the concluding evaluation he said that the gambling rules have customarily been a state issue and the state should be responsible to control the online gambling rights inside their boundaries.
